Our excellent local library system makes a valiant effort to have many e-books available, but only has a tiny fraction of what I can access via Scribd. That said, I do still have occasional problems with the search function finding a particular title even though it turns up being included after all. Also rather than waiting weeks to checkout a title via our local library via Overdrive, I usually have instant access through Scribd. I often find obscure monographs here I can access nowhere else online for any price. To me, it's like a massive digital treasure house set up for easy browsing. However, if you are interested in Art, History, Culture, Language etc., I can pretty much assure you that you have discovered Valhalla with Scribd. I have no idea why, but this may well be because I don't tend to check out bestsellers or really popular titles. I have to admit I have not run into the 'limit' problems some others have reported. They also have an amazing selection of British mystery audio books btw. The current generation of the Hyundai Tucson is a previous winner of our Car of the Year Award, and the plug-in hybrid version is definitely worth your consideration. Volvo is famed for prioritising safety and the XC60 is no different – it gets lane-keep assistance, traffic-sign recognition, a speed limiter and a fatigue detection system.Ĥ.5 out of 5 Read full review Watch video Recharge cars also get adaptive cruise control, a powered hands-free opening boot, heated windscreen and a premium Harman Kardon sound system. All cars come with 19-inch alloys, four-zone climate control, four heated seats and LED headlights. While the XC60 Recharge is quite costly to buy, it is well-equipped. The Volvo XC60 Recharge has a very clean and well-built design on the inside, which makes use of great quality materials – the brand is becoming one of the class-leaders in this respect as an alternative to its more mainstream premium German rivals. Although it certainly is quick, that’s not to suggest it feels like a sports car to drive – the XC60 Recharge is a great choice if you want to prioritise comfort and refinement. The Volvo XC60 Recharge is the plug-in hybrid version of the brand’s mid-size SUV, offering up to 47 miles of electric range and a whopping 449bhp of power. On longer journeys where you’ve depleted the electric range, you’ll be relying on the engine to get you to your destination, and the car’s fuel efficiency will drop noticeably. While you might be drawn to a plug-in hybrid by the promise of unbelievable MPG figures, it’s worth noting that getting close to these numbers in real life completely depends on the types of journeys you do and how often you recharge the battery. PHEVs tend to be able to travel a good distance on electric power alone (around 25-60 miles depending on the model), providing a good compromise between an electric car and a traditional petrol one. With both systems working together, plug-in hybrids tend to be quite powerful, so many claim acceleration times that are close to those set by hot hatchbacks and sports cars. Most PHEVs allow you to choose how the two power sources are used, with many giving you the option to save the battery power for later in the journey – useful if you’re heading into a built-up area or zero-emissions zone. While many people are now beginning to choose a full EV (electric car) over a plug-in hybrid, there are still many benefits to having a petrol engine for those times you need to travel further afield, or can’t find a convenient charger.Īll plug-in hybrids feature an internal combustion engine – usually petrol – mated to an electric motor and battery. Plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) have exploded in popularity over the last few years, with almost all new petrol models also being offered with this kind of powertrain. However, the number of ways you can directly manipulate an interface element are inherently limited.Ībstract commands are when the gesture performed on the touchscreen has little or no relationship to the function it performs. They also offer the potential to "peek" at information by only partially sliding a panel open or turning a page. That's why they're more discoverable (you can often chance upon, and quickly come to understand them, through play), and more easily remembered. There's a 1:1 relationship between action and result that, when well implemented, feels like you're doing it, not just triggering it. Touching and sliding a virtual panel works like touching and sliding a real-world panel. Tapping a virtual button works like tapping a real-world button. Direct manipulation is akin to interacting with a physical object. abstract commandsīroadly speaking, there are two types of gesture controls, direct manipulation and abstract commands. The bad news is that they're not all consistent or symmetrical. The good news is that all of these are direct manipulations. Especially ones that currently use the popular "hamburger button and basement sidebar" design (I'm looking at you Facebook, Google apps, etc.)Įven if iOS doesn't stomp all over them, if they look wrong, or simply feel wrong on iOS 7, they may be forced to change and become more Mail or Messages-like. However, the way Apple is implementing the interface in iOS 7 in general, because of that gesture in Mail or Messages, could make other apps look odd. Because the swipe-right gesture appears limited to certain apps, namely Mail and Messages, it won't collide with other apps already using that gesture. |
